Congratulations to Rachel & Bryce Findley! Wedding date: June 20th, 2009
Heather’s Glen is thrilled to add a new feature to our website: bride profiles! We recently did a wedding for a bride so delightful and unique, that we wanted to share her personality, style, and her special day with all of those that peruse our website.
In high school, Rachel and Bryce were lab partners. Sparks flew when the Bunsen burners were lit. Okay, that’s probably not true. What IS true is that Bryce asked Rachel out through a hangman game during finals. The two became inseparable and even went to college together. As their commencement approached, they began to discuss marriage and their future. During the summer of 2007, Bryce joined Rachel’s family on a trip to Asia. While at dinner, in a beautiful restaurant in Singapore overlooking Clark Que, a huge bouquet of roses were delivered to their table, and Bryce got down on one knee with a ring and asked Rachel to marry him. “I thought I would be very cool and collected,” recalls Rachel, “but I started to cry and said a very scratchy yes. Despite my muffled reply, the whole restaurant started applauding and then a cake with an ignited sparkler was delivered to the table to celebrate the occasion.” The date of the engagement was significant; he asked her on 7/6/07, so that they could start the luckiest day of the year already engaged (7/7/07). “We looked at the engagement as a start of big adventures together, with more to follow soon!”
The preparations for the wedding thus began, with a two-year engagement allowing the couple to get closer to graduation. Rachel’s parents met in New Orleans, and much of her family still live there, so she considered the city as the location for their wedding. She opted for a wedding here at Heather’s Glen, with a New Orleans flair brought by a Second Line Dance. Rachel mentions of discovering Heather’s Glen, “Once I got inside the venue, the gardens seemed to go on forever! Once I heard that there was a chapel being built as well, I knew Heather’s Glen would be the perfect spot…and it was!” The Second Line Dance is a traditional New Orleans celebration dance performed during Mardi Gras and wedding receptions. “The bride and/or groom will hold the umbrellas while performing the dance,” Rachel explains. “The other guests form a ‘train’ behind them holding handkerchiefs or napkins in the air waving them to the beat of the music and mimicking the bride and groom’s dance moves.”
Rachel went to Brickhouse Bridal in The Woodlands for both her gown and her bridesmaids’ dresses. Looking for something traditional yet different, she considered a green wedding gown, but was talked into trying other colors on. “It was a good thing too!” The Paloma Blanca gown she chose was a beautiful hue, shell pink. Her bridesmaids wore ruby red gowns, which got her color scheme going. The invitations were off-white, with ruby red ink, by Papers by Design. “They looked great and were so easy to do because we did them all on Papers by Design’s website.” More red was added to her wedding in the flowers. Her bouquets were made by Cheryl from Cheryl’s Flowers. “She’s amazing!” Rachel exclaimed. “All brides should use her!” Orchids were a special part of the bouquets because the blooms can be found all over Singapore. “We thought it would be a nice tie back to the engagement.” The Findley’s chose a sentimental ring, one that had been left to Rachel by her paternal grandmother. “I loved it because instead of just having diamonds it had sapphires in it as well. These diamonds and sapphires also happen to be our birthstones so it worked quite well…I like the look a lot and I’m happy to have something to pass down to my children and/or grandchildren that was already in the family.”
To a truly unique and delightful couple, Heather’s Glen wishes the Findleys all the best in their new life together!
