Twogether in Texas: Learn to Love for Life

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

I know I write most of my blogs about wedding fun stuff.  You know, shoes, makeup, birdcage veils, etc.  But I am also in the know when it comes to practical wedding stuff as well!  I promise to try to share that a little more often.

No time like the present, right?  I don’t know how many of you know this, but effective last September, a couple can get their marriage license for free if they take an eight-hour pre-marital prep course.  And the last thing you want to fork over before the wedding is an extra $30-$60 bucks.  That’s honeymoon money!

Okay, so I know what you’re thinking.  “We don’t need counseling!”  Maybe you’ve already decided who cooks and who does the dishes; you’ve already planned on two separate toothpastes because one of you likes the cap on with it rolled, and the other squeezes from the middle of the tube; perhaps you’ve even discussed how much of your incomes you’ll put into savings.  But guess what:  marriage isn’t what you expect it to be.  And I know you’re tired of hearing that, but it’s true!  Two people go into a marriage with different expectations.  It’s good to get those expectations out on the table!  That’s just one of the things you’ll discuss in a marriage workshop.

These FREE workshops that are available are called Twogether in Texas -Learn to love for life.  They are offered all over Texas.  It’s not a series of boring lectures, either.  You’re with other couples and instructors lead the discussions.  Topics cover managing stress, effective communication, supporting each other, healthy marriage life, and fun and friendship.

I strongly recommend that you at least check out when and where the classes are.  It couldn’t hurt, could it?  For Twogether in Texas in Montgomery, Walker, and Waller County, call 936.294.4129 or check out www.shsu.edu/twogether.
