Red Valentine Weddings!

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

In February, there are two colors I LOVE for weddings: lavender and red.  This blog is dedicated to the latter!

Red is the color of passion, romance, and love, so what better color to display your Valentine wedding?  The possibilities (as always!) are endless.  Your invitations could be valentines with doilies.  While classic red roses are beautiful and timeless, gerbera daisies can be found in an orangey-red.  One idea that I love is having your bridesmaids in black cocktail dresses and red peep-toes (see photo below).  Let the rich tones of the year’s most romantic holiday guide you with your Valentine wedding planning.

What unique red wedding ideas do YOU have?

Wedding Fitness & Bride Resolution Updates

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Okay, so January is almost over.  Be honest, how are you doing with your resolutions?

I’m still going strong on the Wii Active and I do love it!  I’ve lost 5lbs.  I sleep better and actually have energy before my coffee.  Okay, maybe not before my morning coffee, but definitely before my mid-day coffee ;)

Bride resolution-wise, ladies?  I hope everyone is trying to keep the big picture in mind: I know wedding-planning can be consuming, but don’t forget to nurture the relationships as well!  Your family, friends, and fiance’s lives are not on hold during this time.  Take some time out today to let the people that are important to you know how much you love them.

Please let me know about your progress!

I’m a Bridesmaid!

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Okay, so I got the sweetest card in the mail, from my friend Mary, asking me to be her bridesmaid at her November 2010 wedding!  I was so touched by the sweet card (what a great idea- personally printed cards asking someone to be their bridesmaid, right?), that I immediately teared up.

Now, I’ve only been a bridesmaid once before, for my sister’s wedding, and she got married two months after her engagement.  There wasn’t much time to be the “perfect” bridesmaid, but now I have ten months!  I’m ready to do my research.  As I discover the duties and do-nots of being a bridesmaid, I will definitely share them with all of you.  Maybe that way, if you brides have any clueless maids,…well, maybe you can leave my blog up on their computers?  haha!

As always, let me know if you guys have any good advice about this!  I’ll keep you posted :)

Bouquet Wraps…

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

What’s everyone wrapping their bouquets in?!  There’s been a huge trend in wrapping your bouquet stems with something glitzy, sentimental, or a nod to the wedding theme.  When Heather went to Brugge in 2007, she brought me back a lace handkerchief with my initial, A, sewn in.  I wrapped my bouquet with that, and it sure did come in handy when I started crying during the ceremony!

I called Cheryl, the florist across the street from Heather’s Glen, to find out what brides are doing.  Sentimental!  She’s wrapped stems with a grandmother’s wedding band, a locket with grandparents’ picture, seashells a couple picked up on their first date, a grandfather’s bandana.  A lot of pictures I’ve seen have Rosaries, pearls, rhinestones, brooches, and lockets.  Check out the pics below.  What’re YOU wrapping your bouquet with?

And I don’t mean boobs.

I really really really love gowns with lacy collars or sleeves!  I think the more modest right now, the more glamorous…and we all know how I love glamour.

As young grasshopper grad students, my good friend Mariangela and I (both single at the time!) would spend hours looking at gowns on pronovias.com.  We couldn’t get enough of the gorgeous Spanish designs!  Check out the photos below of some beautiful gowns with a little somethin’ on top.  Very regal and elegant, don’t you think??

Alice & Wonderland Themed Weddings

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

I see Alice & Wonderland themed weddings from time to time on wedding message boards and in magazines.  I’ve never seen one done here, though.  Have any of my readers ever been to one?  I love the look of playfulness and whimsy.  “Eat me” and “Drink me” signs on signature drinks and sweets is such a great idea!  As long as a theme never gets costume-ey, I love it!  Check out some of the links below.  The first is an article about how to throw an Alice & Wonderland at an outdoor facility (ah-hem, that’s us!).  Let me know what you guys think!

Love the pale purple shoes in this inspiration layout.  Also, is that Carrie’s gown??

And finally, a Real Wedding from The Knot.  Check out those card boxes!

Luxe be a Lady Tonight!

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

You know what I love right now for weddings?  GOLD.  Actually, anything luxurious for winter weddings (or Spring, or Summer, or Autumn ones…).

theknot.com has an awesome option of viewing wedding themes and details by color.  Check out the gold ones!  I LOVE LOVE LOVE gold bridesmaids gown because then the flowers (purple ones especially) really POP!  Gold has been making an awesome accent color, but what about using it as the main color with a bright accent?

Yellow gold has also made a huge comeback into fashion for jewelry.  Anything gold and delicate is really pretty, especially with pearls!  Check out the pics below for some awesome gold wedding ideas.
