Just some updates

Just some updates:

1.  Bonnie (our 2009 intern) got married last night!  Congratulations to Bonnie and Chris!  Bonnie gives me 97% of the material on this blog.  Pics and details will surely be up this week!

2.  The jasmine is now blooming, and if you’ve ever been to Heather’s Glen, you know how lovely and fragrant it is. If you haven’t…well, you need to make an appointment!

3. I want to post a website I find hilarious.  It’s called www.wedinator.com, and the deal is they trash weddings.  As in, make fun of ridiculous wedding pics that people post.  If you like cakewrecks.com or awkwardfamilyphotos.com, you will love this.

Michelle and Hudley Owens: August 8th, 2009

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

A couple that married here last August contacted me today with their photos and wedding details!  I’m always excited to share these.

Michelle Vaught married Hudley Owens on August 8th, 2009 in the chapel at Heather’s Glen.  The two met working in Colorado with mutual friends, although they suspect that they first met in high school (they just don’t remember!).  On a Christmas Eve at Michelle’s aunt’s house, Hudley proposed- in front of fifty-five family members!  Can you imagine?  They chose to unite in marriage at Heather’s Glen because they were attracted to the all-inclusive packages, as well as the gorgeous stained glass window in the chapel.  Flowers designed by the Blossom Shop carried a sentimental note, as the same shop did flowers for Michelle’s parents’ wedding 33 years ago!  Hudley selected Stoney LaRue’s “Let Me Just Hold You” for their first dance.

Check out the fabulous pictures below, by Studio 563.

Online Social Wedding Networking?

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Last week I got an email from a dear friend getting married on Saturday.  Months ago, she signed onto a wedding email list, and has been deleting non-relative emails from her inbox ever since (you know how that goes).  Until last week- she got an email advertising an offer for a free videographer on her wedding date, for the first bride to call in!   She gave her info, and because she wasn’t the first bride to call, didn’t think too much of it.  They contacted her back, however, and she won the videographer services!  What a gift- her wedding is THIS SATURDAY!

Do you brides do a lot of online social networking?  Fans on facebook, following on twitter, email lists, blog subscriptions, message boards and communities?  It seems to pay off!  Tons of vendors do specials, so it’s worth keeping an eye open :)   If you’re not already, follow us on twitter and add us on facebook!

So, speaking of videographers, go to this link and watch the video on the bottom of the page.  **Warning** You WILL need a box of tissues.

*YUM ALERT* Guri Do Sul!

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Last week Lela and I hit up the North Houston networking event at…Guri do Sul!  YUM.  I’d been hearing people rave about the Brazilian restaurant for some time now, so I was pumped when I got the chance to try it out.  Excellent food, wonderful service.  Here’s what we ate: bacon-wrapped filet mignon, bacon-wrapped chicken breast, their house specialty Picanha (a prime cut of sirloin), truffle mashed potatoes, Brazilian rice, and cheese bread.  Not only does Guri do Sul have a phenomenal menu, but it’s a fabulous location.  Three private rooms are available: one seats 25 people, another 85, and then finally one seats about 115 people.  This would be a spectacular venue for an engagement party or rehearsal dinner.  There is also the main dining room, of course, so check it out for lunch or dinner!  Here’s the website:

Bikram Yoga – The Woodlands

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

I did it- I went to a Bikram yoga class last night!  As my loyal readers know, I’ve been meaning to try it for some time now.  One of our lovely brides (Hi Danielle!) works at the amazing studio in The Woodlands.

And I must say, after that 90 minute class of sweating, stretching, concentrating, and wobbling on one leg…I totally recommend it!

Of course, I wasn’t sure what to expect and was quite nervous.  The staff at Bikram Yoga The Woodlands is PHENOMENAL, however!  Everyone was super friendly and helpful.  I wanted to hide in the back, but the instructors encouraged me to begin in row 2, the middle row.  So glad I did – I could concentrate on each pose (posture?) by seeing my reflection in the mirror.  If I’d hidden in the back, surely I would have been focusing too much on whether or not I looked like my classmates.

Brides, listen.  You’re stressed.  You’re not sleeping.  You need to unwind.  TRY BIKRAM YOGA.  It will help you take some time out of your crazy week to stop and appreciate the moment, breathe, and relax.  Who doesn’t need that?  For those of you who are getting into a workout rut (hello, me), it’s also an extremely challenging exercise.  Finally, I want to recommend it as a gift, whether for your bridesmaids who’ve put up with you or your future mother-in-law who is working so hard help you make your dream wedding come true.  Here is their website:

Wedding Trends 2010

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Yesterday Heather and I attended the fabulous Houston chapter of NACE event, Wedding Trends 2010!  The luncheon included a bridal fashion show featuring dueling piano entertainment by Howl at the Moon- what a great idea for a wedding as an alternative to just a DJ or band, right?!  You would never forget a wedding with dueling pianos!  After the fashion show, Steve Kemble, America’s Sassiest Lifestyle Guru, described all of the hot “on trend” (not to be confused with “trendy”) aspects of weddings for 2010.  Everything wedding was covered, from green weddings to invites, to dresses, to colors, to food, to decor, to cakes, to entertainment…you get the picture.  What?  You’d like me to highlight a few?  Don’t mind if I do. :)

PERSONALIZATION of weddings.  Branding it!  Lots of couples are opting to have their monogram on the favors, chairs, and lighting backdrop. Mr. Kemble offered that this is even brought over to the reception menu, in which “his” and “her” favorite food stations are arising.

PURPLES and lavenders are 2010′s most popular hue!  It looks great on everyone, doesn’t it?  Kemble explained that whatever color is big in fashion approximately 1-2 years prior to the wedding is the color that is big in weddings.  Fashion directly translates to weddings.  For example, the past couple of years have been big on yellow and floral prints.

ENTERTAINMENT is not just for DJs and bands anymore.  Like I mentioned above, dueling pianos are so fun and interactive!  While photobooths have been a strong trend, fortune tellers and card readers have become increasingly popular.  Kemble did mention the importance of screening these entertainers, however.  The last thing you want at your wedding is your guests being told a dreary future!

UNIQUE VENUES are replacing the typical reception locations.  Historical sites (hello?!  Heather’s Glen!), museums, libraries, and castles are becoming the new hot spots.

These are just a couple of trends mentioned!  If you have any questions or would like to hear more, just shoot me over a comment or email!

Easter & April Tulips

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Did everyone have a lovely Easter?  I hope so!

I celebrate at my parents’ house.  They do an amazing dinner, and my mother’s table is always so gorgeous.  This year she had a huge 12 inch bubble bowl overflowing with pink and white tulips.

Friday night’s bride at Heather’s Glen carried a multi-colored tulip bouquet.  Each of her bridesmaids carried a bouquet in a different color.  It looked awesome!  Erin, if you’re reading this, send me some pics of those flowers!  You know.  When you get back from your honeymoon.  haha!

Tulips are my official favorite flower (especially white ones- is there anything more elegant than a bunch of white tulips in a vase?), and I love the abundance of them in April!
