Honeymoon Under the Sea…

Just by the title of the blog, you’d think I’d be referring to snorkeling or scuba diving excursions during your honeymoon, right? Wrong. I’m referring to the new honeymoon suite that is available in the Maldives: The Conrad Hotel is boasting the suite under the sea for it’s 5th birthday. Wait, where? you ask. The Maldives are an island nation off the coast of India. Talk about destination, and talk about swanky! The exclusive hotel’s newest suite offers Bulgari toiletries, wine, champagne, and spa services. The suite is called Ithaa, and guests can relax in bed and watch various ocean life swim around the 5 meter suite.

Bridal Shower #3

Alright, so I attended my third bridal shower for 2010 in May. Well, I suppose it wasn’t exactly a shower as much as a spin on the bridesmaids luncheon. As I mentioned in a previous post, Heather and I are bridesmaids in our dear friend Mary’s wedding in November. There are a couple of satellite bridesmaids (one in New York and one in Chicago), so we (the gals in the Houston area: Heather, Tamara, and me) hosted a brunch at the best brunch venue in Houston- Baba Yega! Mmm…fruit and cheese, shrimp and avocado salad (at least, that’s what I ate!) and carafes of mimosas! Heather chose the perfect location; Tamara did a charming job with the black and white damask decor; I did a great job eating, drinking, and laughing. (Hey! Don’t judge- it’s what I’m good at doing, that’s all!)

We gave the bride-to-be a crystal Waterford vase from her registry, discussed wedding party plans, and reminisced about when we all met (high school, college). We had a lovely time in a gorgeous setting. Check out the pic of the Houston bridesmaids with the bride below!

Bradshaw Styling at Saks Fifth Avenue

Our jobs at Heather’s Glen are VERY rewarding. On a weekly basis we meet couples who are so in love and ready to share their lives together, and then assist in the process of wedding planning, and then finally make their dream wedding come to fruition. So exciting, but a lot of work!

One of the more fun parts of our jobs is keeping up with trends and networking! Last Monday we attended a NACE event at Saks 5th Avenue called Bradshaw Styling by Stephanie Bradshaw. An animated and dynamic stylist, Stephanie gave a presentation on four different types of styles: Classic, Glamour, Bohemian, and Minimal.

The room was divided into four quadrants, with each quadrant reflecting one of the four styles. A fashion quiz each guest filled out revealed our styles! Heather: Casual Chic. Me: Eclectic.

The room was gorgeous, the food was delicious, and the styles were fabulous (of course). Laura Mercier makeup artists gave lovely makeovers with tips. Here are some photos below of the stylish event!

Wedding Lessons from Sex & the City!

There are some nights when I can’t fall asleep and my husband’s in his office working, so I pop in a movie. Sometimes it’s Disney’s Cinderella, sometimes it’s Lady in the Water; last night it was Sex and the City!

I’ve seen it several times, so while it did the trick and put me right to sleep, I woke up inspired by the wedding lessons that it teaches. *SPOILER ALERT* If you’ve never seen the movie, do not continue reading!

Carrie and Big want to have a small, intimate wedding with about 75 guests. She picked up her label-less gown (an ivory skirt suit) at a vintage shop. “I saw this and thought, this is what I want to marry Big in.” While Charlotte and her wedding planner were horrified at her choice, she assured them it was what she wanted. Then, after doing a haute wedding couture shoot, Vivienne Westwood sent over the beautiful gown she was photographed for Vogue in! A dream gown, she chose to wear that instead, and the guest list shot up to 200! “It’s turning into a circus!” Big had exclaimed. A huge ballgown, feathers in her hair, a bouquet bigger than her head, the NY library landmark venue, and two hundred guests later…well, you know what happened. Fast forward to the end of the movie, and the couple do get married. Just the two of them. At city hall. The bride wore the label-less vintage suit, and of course fabulous blue Manolos. The reception was a casual meal with their friends and family after the ceremony.

The wedding lesson of the movie seems to be to throw the wedding of YOUR dreams- not anyone else’s. If you and your groom are set on a bbq menu, don’t let the caterer push you to do otherwise! If you imagine yourself saying your vows with long, loose, wavy hair, don’t let your stylist insist on an elaborate updo!

When Carrie saw that vintage suit in the shop, she said that she just knew that’s what she wanted to wear when she said “I do” to Big. Go with that gut feeling!

Catching up at Heather’s Glen!

Hi everyone! Sorry I took a blogging haitus- but now I’m back with tons and tons of ideas. Every once in a while I need some new scenery to get some fresh inspiration. A two day getaway to Galveston with the hubby, a couple of days shopping in Fredericksburg with the gals, and an Oprah episode really did the trick! Oh yes, and I can’t forget the NACE luncheon yesterday at Saks 5th Avenue: Bradshaw Styling.

James “Eddie” Wright Marries Cody Fife at Heather’s Glen!

Heather’s Glen was proud to be the venue of choice for the war hero Marine Eddie Wright and fiancee Cody Fife on July 24, 2010.

Cody explained that their life had recently become a circus of media: trips to New York and Chicago, to be interviewed on by countless publications and Glen Beck, the couple just wanted to have an intimate wedding ceremony in a lovely setting.

We were proud to oblige! Cpl. Eddie Wright had been given the Bronze Star for his courage while in Iraq in 2004. A rocket-propelled grenade exploded in his vehicle, and he lost both hands. His left eardrum was ruptured, and his femur broke leaving a gaping hole. Despite his injuries, he acted quickly and calmly, calling for support and assisting in the response to the attack. His bravery is an inspiration for us all.

The couple now resides in Conroe, Texas, and Heather’s Glen wishes them a lifetime of happiness, laughter, and love.

Something Blue

My sister wears a necklace that I’m obsessed with. I can’t simply get over that she wears it- I have to mention each time I see it that I love it so much.

And then it occurred to me that it would be the perfect “something blue.”

It’s a very simple and elegant tiffany blue rosebud on a silver chain. I’ve never seen anyone else wear it, although she purchased it from the popular store Urban Outfitters. Check it out:

I am so crazy about this piece of jewelry that I went to the shop to get one myself, and guess what they had? A GOLD one with BLUSH rose! Perfect for me! I love gold jewelry, and you know how I’ve been blogging about blush-colored bridal gowns. So you have a few options here with this charming necklace:

1. Wear the blue one as your “something blue.” Do this if you have other silver accents.

2. Wear the blush one if you’re wearing a blush gown! Make sure you also do gold.

3. You knew I was going to say it: give them to your bridesmaids as gifts!

Daisy-themed Weddings

Daisy-themed weddings are so perfect for summer! Whether you go for Shasta daisies or gerbers (or both!), they are sure to lend a cheerful and casual tone to your event.

Shastas are the smaller white daisies, with the yellow center. They are a symbol of innocence and fidelity. Gerbers are the bright big ones; they’ve been very popular in the past few years in the bright pink and orange varieties.
