Remember Rings

Sunday, November 27th, 2011

Want to remind your future husband your anniversary without having to actually, you know, remind him?!  Check out these men’s “remember rings.”  They’re bands for men that are programmed to heat up 24 hours before the big day each year to remind him tomorrow is a special date!  The site boasts that it’s “hot enough to cause discomfort but not hot enough to burn- the Remember Ring is impossible to ignore!”  These are not only used for anniversaries; you can have it programmed to heat up 24 hours before your birthday!

Brilliant.  I think I would prefer to have it “remind” my husband a few weeks prior- you know, so he has ample time to plan something special.  No last minute gifts for me, please!

Dr. Pepper Wedding Toast

Monday, November 21st, 2011

Last night’s wedding skipped the traditional champagne toast and toasted with Dr. Pepper instead!  Everyone loved well-wishing the bride and groom with the cute bottles in hand.  I don’t have the photos for the wedding, but I found some other weddings that appreciate the lovely southern soda!  Check out the photos below.

What are some champagne alternatives you’ve seen?

I Carry Your Heart

Monday, November 14th, 2011

Has anyone seen the movie/read the book In Her Shoes?  Could anyone make it through the wedding scene where Cameron Diaz reads “I Carry Your Heart” by E.E. Cummings without crying?  Me neither.  I tried to find a clip of the scene to no avail, but here is the sweet, sweet poem.

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
                                                      i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

Swoon!  Probably read at thousands of weddings since then!  Today, I found THIS:

I found the photo of this marvelous cake on pinterest, but there is no credit.  :(   If anyone knows the photog or pastry chef, definitely let me know so I can credit them.

If you haven’t seen this movie, and you have a sister, GO RENT IT NOW!  Or get the book.  (Also- a great gift. )

S.W.A.K.

Monday, November 14th, 2011

We were giggling in the office the other day when Lela accidentally stamped an envelope upside down.  I don’t recall who the piece of mail was being sent to, but it certainly wasn’t someone she wanted to send an “I love you” to.  Wait, what?  Don’t worry, Heather didn’t know what we were talking about either!  Lela and I understood an upside down stamp on an envelope to mean “I love you.”  I have no idea where that came from, but we decided to look it up, and sure enough there are other meanings for more stamp positions!

Upside down: I love you.
Sideways, head right: Love and kisses.
Sideways, head left: I’ll never leave you.
Diagonal to the right: Marry me?
Diagonal to the left: Yes, I’ll marry you.

Evidently, the code originated during Victorian times when lovers had to be careful about what was in writing.  Have you ever heard of the code?  Do you use it?

What stamps are you using for your wedding stationery?

When Zombies Attack, Will YOU Be Ready?

Monday, November 14th, 2011

Sometimes you get tired of the same old engagement pictures, right?  Your facebook feed spits out the same pose, different couple week after week.  This couple, along with their photographer, Amanda Rynda, got super creative.  Starts out typical, ends up awesome!

What do you think?  Are zombies the new photo prop?  View the full story on the photographer’s blog here.

Hot Chocolate Bar

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

Open House was a huge success!  Thank you to all of the vendors that participated, and all of the brides and their families for attending.  We love showcasing the newest trends and improvements at Heather’s Glen.  Pictures are soon to come!

Until then, did anyone enjoy hot chocolate at the open house?  It was a chilly night so we decided to warm everyone up with something rich and sweet.  If you’re having a wedding during a cold autumn or winter month, have you considered serving hot cocoa to your guests?  Have you considered doing so with all the fixings?!  I just found some photos of “hot chocolate bars” to inspire you…(or make your mouth water!)

MMM…I spy marshmallows, whipped cream, candy canes, Bailey’s, and cinammon sticks!  How do YOU take your hot chocolate?

Open House – This Thursday Night!

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Happy Halloween, everyone!  I hope everyone’s day is more fun than scary.  It’s Monday, which is scary enough, and now Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner- more scariness.

You know what’s fun and not scary at all?  Our open house this Thursday night from 6-9pm!  Please come out if you can to see our lovely facility, and enjoy some food and win giveaways.

Anyone else thinking about watching The Corpse Bride tonight?  Only me?  I’m the only one?

“The Unbreakable Vow” Engagement

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Attention, geeks and nerds!  (Because evidently, those are two different things)- check out this proposal.

I’ve never read the Harry Potter series, and I couldn’t see at first that the chapter the ring is on is called “The Unbreakable Vow.”  Sweet!

We’ve all heard of finding a diamond ring in dessert after dinner, or a fortune cookie, but I thought this one was pretty unique.  Where have you heard of women discovering their engagement rings?

If you were to discover an engagement in a book, which would you want to find it in?

Wow- look at this fun engagement session by One Eye Click!

Check out the rest of the couple’s photos (including some of their shots in their home renovation project) at http://oneeyeclick.wordpress.com/2011/06/14/kenneth-hui-wen/

Kind of reminds me of this Adele video.  Surely you haven’t had your daily Adele fix today.  You’re welcome.

Married Couple Dies Holding Hands

Sunday, October 23rd, 2011

Entertainment news constantly bombards our tvs, facebook feeds, and web browsers with celebrity stories of divorce and betrayal.  Ugh.  That’s why we love to spread the word when wholesome stories of love and commitment make it into the news!

Last week an Iowa couple made headlines throughout the country.  After 72 years together, Gordon and Norma Yeager died holding hands. An unfortunate car accident brought the couple to the hospital, where their beds were pushed together in the ICU.  While Mr. Yeager passed away first, his monitor continued to pick up a heartbeat, but it was not his own: his wife’s heartbeat was still pulsing through his body through their hand-holding.  An hour later, Mrs. Yeager passed away.

The couple’s four children reported that their death is indicative of their marriage, that they were inseparable.  “Dad used to say that a woman is always worth waiting for,” their son Dennis Yeager said. “Dad waited an hour for her and held the door for her.”

So sweet!  And great advice from dad!
