It always goes down a treat with the couple, their families and guests. I have shortened the 'story' considerably and given it a modern slant. I announce that whoever finishes their wine first will rule the roost when they set up home together. Of course the bride always wins! I am a professional Toastmster and often, at the end of the speeches when everyone thinks its all over I produce the wedding cup and get the bride and groom to drink from it together.
