A Case for Edible Wedding Favors

After four years of working in weddings, I have come to a conclusion about favors: if you opt to have them, they should be an edible treat. Whether it be an elaborate candy station or a simple package of mints, a little something to be enjoyed now or later is much more practical than, you know, another tchotchke! If you’re a borderline hoarder like myself, you feel guilty tossing away a personalized votive candle or tiny photo frame from a friend’s celebration. While I know this sounds more like a personal problem that could land me on the hit A&E tv show, I assure you that I’m simply making a case for practical wedding favors!

Here is a simple package of mints. Wrap them in scrapbook paper with cute tags and viola! Instant favors. Lifesavers in a tux, if you will.

Wedding Guests’ Thumbprint Wall Art

I love to see new guest book alternatives. The guest book we used is very lovely in its own right, but it is unfortunately tucked away in our attic. Like many brides, I thought I would reach for my wedding day accessories often to reminisce, and was surprised that it just doesn’t happen. I do reach for our wedding day album often, though! And so, it wasn’t long after the wedding and moving in process that the only appropriate place for those keepsakes became in a neatly-labeled box in the attic.

For this very reason, one of my favorite guest book alternatives is the family tree: a trunk is pre-painted onto a canvas, and friends and family leave their thumbprint and signature lovingly onto the tree. The end result is a true treasure, that can be displayed in the couple’s home.

Another option, along the same vein, I discovered on pinterest today. This would be charming for a summer-themed wedding, and can be created with any colors you have in mind.

Last Wednesday, we attended the spectacular event that Houston wedding professionals look forward to every year: the NACE Wedding Trends! Each year is an incredible display of the latest and greatest in everything wedding. This year didn’t disappoint, with Sarah Haywood (the much sought-after British wedding planner and author) presenting the differences between British and American weddings, and hot trend alerts. Were you wondering if the Royal Wedding has been the leading inspiration in weddings since it took place a year ago? Not completely- lace gowns with sleeves, yes. One of my favorite blogs is Cupcakes and Cashmere; if you love food, entertaining, fashion, and crafty tutorials, you’ve got to check Emily’s blog out. She also happens to be getting married this month, so I visit her blog frequently for her wedding sneak-peeks. Emily also collaborates with Estee Lauder, and she recently posted her wedding makeup preparation with their creative make-up director, Tom Pecheux.

Dusty Miller and Lamb’s Ear Wedding Florals

One of Heather’s favorite accessories in her flower beds is the dusty miller. In the winter, it has a frosty, snowy affect, especially when paired next to rich red poinsettias. During warmer months, it contrasts spectacularly with bright greens and yellows.

A recent trend in wedding florals is incorporating dusty millers and lamb’s ear into bouquets and centerpieces. The foliage provides a soft, silvery, gentle look to both bright and muted blooms.
